Leaking Behind Shower Taps

When shower taps are fitted there is a hole in the water proofing to allow the taps to be connected to the pipes in the wall. This hole must be sealed with silicon to prevent water getting passed the water proofing located under any tiling and damaging the wall frame.

Depending on the type of tap fitted, the hole is covered with the taps flange. To check if the silicon sealant is adequate it is necessary to look behind any flanges fitted. Flanges can usually be unscrewed or lifted away from the wall when they are held in place with a spring.
