Lapping Roofing Materials
The Head or End Lap – the portion of a tile covered by the tile above it.
The Side Lap – the portion of a tile which interlocks with the tile beside it.
Lapping also applies to sheet metal roofing.
Laps should face away from direction of weather and greater lapping ensures better weatherproofing.
